That\u2019s \u201cMiffy Sakura Kitchen & Bakery Arashiyama Store.\u201d This concept shop combines \u201cMiffy,\u201d the character created by Dutch children\u2019s book author Dick Bruna, with traditional Japanese culture. It\u2019s one of Arashiyama\u2019s most popular tourist spots, where visitors can enjoy freshly baked bread and original merchandise.<\/p>\n

Miffy Sakura Kitchen & Bakery is a shop with a \"Japanese Culture \u00d7 Miffy\" theme operated by Terakoya Co., Ltd., headquartered in Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City, under a licensing agreement with Dick Bruna Japan. It opened on October 3, 2018, along the main street leading from Togetsukyo Bridge to the Bamboo Grove Path.<\/p>\n

The interior features a soft pink color scheme inspired by cherry blossoms\u2014the source of the store\u2019s name\u2014and houses both \u201cMiffy Sakura Kitchen,\u201d which sells kitchenware and souvenirs, and \u201cMiffy Sakura Bakery,\u201d which offers fresh-baked bread and soft-serve ice cream. The store offers a wide range of items, from household goods to food, and is known for its extensive selection of original products available exclusively at this location.<\/p>\n

The chain has since grown to include six locations nationwide\u2014including this Arashiyama store\u2014in Yufuin (Oita), Karuizawa (Nagano), Kurashiki (Okayama), Kawagoe (Saitama), and Otaru (Hokkaido). The chain continues to expand, with a new store set to open in Otaru, Hokkaido, in July 2025.<\/p>\n

\u25a0Freshly Baked Bread and Original Merchandise Are the Highlights<\/h2>\n

The bakery section\u2019s signature items are freshly baked Miffy-themed breads, including the \u201cMiffy Anpan.\u201d They also sell baked goods with a longer shelf life, and since there\u2019s an eat-in area, it\u2019s the perfect spot to take a break while exploring. Popular items sometimes sell out, so if you want to be sure to get them, we recommend visiting in the morning through early afternoon.<\/p>\n

The gift shop offers a wide selection of items, ranging from Japanese-style goods created in collaboration with traditional crafts\u2014such as Imabari towels, chopsticks, and chopstick rests\u2014to Miffy plush toys and pouches, including store-exclusive items. One of the unique pleasures of this shop is being able to take your time choosing gifts while surrounded by the aroma of fresh bread.<\/p>\n
