Doshisha University Imadegawa Campus Christmas Illumination

The top performer is the illumination of Doshisha University's Imadegawa Campus, just a short walk from the Imadegawa Municipal Subway Station.
Entering from the West Gate facing Karasuma Dori, you will find a plaza called Sanctus Court surrounded by Shoeikan, Doshisha Chapel, and Conscience Hall on the north side. The Himalayan cedar that sits there is a whopping 100 years old.
The Christmas tree has been illuminated since 2014 and has become a local winter tradition. The 23-meter tall tree shining amidst the buildings of important cultural properties is a majestic sight.
Visitors can feel a sense of solemnity that is different from the glittering and colorful illuminations of commercial facilities.

■Agnes Illumination at Heian Jogakuin College

Next on our list is the Agnes Illumination at Heian Jogakuin College, a five-minute walk from Marutamachi Station, a neighbor of Imadegawa Station.
This illumination started in 2005 and is now in its 17th year.

The photo shows last year's event, which was held under the theme "Suiten Ichibeki: Keep Shining & Keep Smiling" with the image of the sea. Every year, students from the School of International Tourism take the lead in creating the illumination in cooperation with junior and senior high school students and faculty members.

All electric decorations are LEDs, which consume less power. Energy saving and environmental considerations are taken into account.

The warmth of these handmade illuminations can be felt, and they are sure to bring a smile to the faces of those who see them.

A grand staircase you'll want to keep looking at! Kyoto Station Building: A Fantasy of Light

Next is the "Light Fantasy" at Kyoto Station Building, the gateway to Kyoto.

At "Graphical Illumination Plus" on the grand staircase on the fourth floor of the Kyoto Station Building, visitors can enjoy unique Christmas animations such as a giant Christmas tree with flickering lights and Santa Claus and his reindeer on a sleigh.
Approximately 15,000 LEDs are encrusted on 125 of the 171 steps.

The entire station is enveloped in a festive atmosphere with unique illuminations at various locations in the Kyoto Station Building, including the immersive "STAR BRIDGE" illumination on the 10F aerial walkway and the "LUNA GARDEN" projection mapping based on the concept of a botanical garden of light in the 7F East Plaza. The entire station is enveloped in a festive atmosphere.

Don't miss the light effects of "Graphical Illumination PLUS," "STAR BRIDGE" and "LUNA GARDEN" turning into Christmas colors simultaneously at 00:00 and 30:00 every hour!

■Kyoto Illumination in Rurikei Onsen Synastasia Hills

Last but not least is the "Kyoto Illumination Synastasia Hills".
Located in "Kyoto Rurikei Onsen for REST RESORT," this illumination spot is open all year round.
“Synastasia” is the concept, and it is very popular during the Christmas season.
Light art in harmony with the natural beauty of Rurikei is blended with magnificent music, giving visitors the feeling as if they were lost in a forest of light. The "Spiral Light Tunnel" in the photo above is particularly fantastic!

The "Art in the Sky: The Aurora Experience" is a large-scale aurora show that changes dramatically in appearance depending on weather conditions. On rainy, foggy, or snowy days, the Aurora Borealis experience is particularly impressive.

This year's Christmas event is Dec. 23-25.
Enjoy the fantastic world of candlelight nights and fire performances that can only be seen at this time of year.
