Peach blossoms are darker pink than someiyoshino. Peach blossoms are at their best from mid-March to late April, about the same time as cherry blossoms. Cherry blossoms are popular in Kyoto in spring, but the gorgeous peaches are also a must-see.
Therefore, we would like to introduce two places in Kyoto that are famous for peach blossoms. If you are wondering where to go on your spring trip to Kyoto, please take a look.

■Kyoto Gyoen

The Kyoto Gyoen is a park that surrounds the Kyoto Imperial Palace. The vast grounds are dotted with important buildings related to the imperial family and a children's park that has become a place of relaxation for the local residents. The Kyoto Imperial Palace is located in the northwest area of the Kyoto Gyoen, so it is recommended to appreciate the peaches while visiting the park.
Peach trees are planted in the Kyoto Imperial Garden in the children's park set up at the northwest end and near the Hamagurimimon gate on the west side. The children's park is located near Imadegawa Subway Station, so it is a good place to stop by on your way to your next destination.

The Hamagurimimon Gate was an area that was the scene of fierce battles during the turmoil at the end of the Edo period. Bullet holes, believed to be from that time, can still be seen on the gate. Nearby, about 70 peach trees have been planted, and paths and benches have been maintained. Take a leisurely stroll while smelling the sweet and sour aroma of peaches.

■Hachimangu shrine dedicated to Hachimangu shrine (located in Kyoto and dedicated to women)

Kubozu Hachimangu is a cozy shrine located about a 20-minute walk from the Kyoto Imperial Palace. Legend has it that Minamoto no Yoshitsune once stopped by to pray for safety on his journey from Kyoto to Oshu Hiraizumi (present-day Iwate Prefecture). Because of this, the shrine is now known by those in the know as a shrine that is blessed with travel safety.
Peach trees are planted on both sides of the short approach from the torii gate to the main shrine, allowing visitors to view the gorgeous peaches in spring. The sweet smell of peaches also wafts through the temple grounds, giving visitors a special springtime feeling.
Statues and ema (votive picture tablet) featuring cute doves are everywhere in the precincts of the shrine. The dove is the messenger of Hachimangu Shrine and has been revered as a bird that indicates omens of good fortune. The doves are the main motifs on the amulet decorations and ema (votive picture tablet), which make one feel as if something good is about to happen as one looks around the shrine's grounds.
