A relatively new street in Kyoto, it was developed from the late Meiji to Showa periods.
One of the major streets in Kyoto, from Takaragaike Dori to Niomon Dori is called Shirakawa Dori.
In fact, the area here is called "Shirakawa-dori" because a river called Shirakawa flows through the area.
The streets are lined with ginkgo and zelkova trees, and many antique stores, fashionable restaurants, stores, and cafes.
