After the cherry blossom season has passed, azaleas are next in season. Although cherry blossoms are popular in Kyoto, there are actually many azalea viewing spots here and there around Kyoto City.

■Nagaoka Tenmangu Shrine
Nagaoka Tenmangu Shrine is located in Nagaokakyo City, Kyoto Prefecture.
The nearest station is Nagaoka Tenjin Station on the Hankyu Kyoto Line. The time required from the station is approximately 6 minutes on foot. Nagaoka Tenjin Station is about 20 minutes from Hankyu Arashiyama Station and about 12 minutes from Kyoto Kawaramachi Station, making it easy to incorporate into your train travel plans.
The landmark of Nagaoka Tenmangu Shrine is the 10-meter-high Otorii Gate. The Otorii is made of stone and has a massive appearance.
A must-see at Nagaoka Tenmangu Shrine is the Kirishima azalea, which is designated as a natural monument of the city.
It is characterized by bright red flowers, and the tree is about 2.5 meters tall.
The "Hachijogaike Fureai Kaiyunomichi" within the precincts of the temple is a fantastic spot where visitors can stroll around the area while being surrounded by Kirishima azaleas.
Looking at the brightly colored flowers, one can sincerely feel that "spring has come again this year.
The best time to see Kirishima azaleas at Nagaoka Tenmangu Shrine is around late April.
If you visit during your trip to Kyoto in the first half of Golden Week, you will likely see azaleas in beautiful bloom.
At the same time, an ikebana exhibition and tea ceremony will be held, so be sure to make your trip memorable.

■Myoman Temple
Myoman-ji Temple is the head temple of the Kemoto Hokke school of Buddhism, located in Sakyo-ku, Kyoto.
The nearest station is Kino Station on the Eizan Dentetsu Kurama Line. From Kino Station, it takes about 5 minutes on foot.
It can also be visited from Kokusai Kaikan Station on the Kyoto Municipal Subway Tozai Line. If you use Kokusai Kaikan Station, it is about a 6-minute walk from the station to Myomanguji Temple.
About 3,000 azaleas are planted in the precincts of Myoman-ji Temple, and the best time to view them is around early May.
In particular, the azalea garden in front of the temple gate is a must-see! The azalea trees are planted everywhere, and just looking at them will make you feel refreshed.
In addition to azaleas, many other seasonal flowers and plants are planted in the precincts of Myoman-ji Temple.
From early to late April, weeping cherry trees are at their best. Once the azalea season has passed, the oyakitsubata and water lilies come next.
There is also the "Snow Garden," one of the "Three Gardens of Snow, Moon, and Flowers" in Kyoto, with many attractions.
