Mitarashi Dango Koutouka is a dumpling shop located near Demachiyanagi Station on the Keihan Electric Railway and Eizan Electric Railway lines.
The large "Ancient City Fragrance" sign posted at the entrance is a landmark. There are several tables inside the restaurant, making it a perfect place to stop by for a short break during your trip.

The classic Mitarashi dumpling is made with a generous amount of soy sauce-colored sauce. The secret is to taste them well flavored and to take turns eating them with a cup of tea.
If you purchase two or more bottles, you can also take them out, so check it out if you are in the area to see the cherry blossoms.

In addition to Mitarashi dango, kinako (soybean flour) and kinako matcha (powdered green tea) are also available to take home.
If you eat in the restaurant, you can also choose salty dumplings such as butter soy sauce or seaweed soy sauce.
The restaurant closes when it sells out, so if you are absolutely sure you want to try it, visit at 10:30 a.m. when it opens.

■Totono Dango Miyoshiya

Miyoshiya Miyakono Dango" is a Mitarashi dumpling shop that has been in business for three generations.
The store is located in the Gion shopping district and is open for short hours only at night from 9:30pm to 10:30pm.
Since mail order and delivery are not available, visit the temple at night or after dinner.

All dumplings are made over charcoal, and the sweet and spicy sauce matches well with the charcoal flavor.
The warmth of a handmade product is also a memorable part of a trip to Kyoto.
When you take it home, you can have it wrapped in a bag that looks like a bamboo leaf. The mouth is cinched with a string, and the remarkable thing about this design is that you will want to carry it around with you as you wander around.
